Contact Lenses FAQ

Do you still have questions about using contact lenses to fix your poor eyesight? If so, the answers to the FAQs below should provide valuable information.

Who Prescribes Contact Lenses?

The optometrist near you can prescribe your new pair of contact lenses. Although ophthalmologists can prescribe contact lenses, they generally don’t handle those tasks. They focus more on performing eye surgery and treating long-term eye conditions. You’ll have an easier time getting your new contacts from an optometry specialist.

How Do You Get Contact Lenses?

You cannot just purchase contact lenses from a random store and start wearing them. Doing so puts your eyes at great risk. To ensure your new contacts correct your vision without harming your eyes, you must get them from an optometrist near you.

Clear out your schedule before booking an appointment with an optometry specialist. You’ll have to undergo a lengthy eye exam during that appointment, so clearing your schedule beforehand is highly recommended. Once the eye exam is finished, you will be fitted for new contacts. The optometrist will ask you to wear those contact lenses for a while.

After a set period with your new contacts, the eye doctor will ask you to return for another check-up. They will check if the contacts are working as intended. You may keep your current pair or prescribed a new one based on the results of that testing period.

How Long Does It Take to Get Comfortable With Contact Lenses?

The adjustment period for people wearing contacts for the first depends on which specific lenses they are using. The softer contacts are easy to wear. People typically have no issues wearing them. Rigid contacts can present more comfort issues. You may need to wait a few weeks until your eyes can fully adjust to them.
